BEGAWAN
Begawan is a grassroots organisation that is committed to a nature conservation program for the critically endangered Bali Starling and a regenerative rice program in Bayad Village.

Nature Conservation
Begawan Gita
Begawan became involved with nature conservation in 1999, when it launched a breeding and release program to save the critically endangered Bali Starling from extinction. Begawan invested in state-of-the-art enclosures for the birds and expert care from the country’s best birdkeepers, as well as post-release monitoring and habitat preservation. To date, Begawan has bred and released more than 130 Bali Starlings into the wild.

Regenerative Farming
Begawan Giri
Begawan’s rice farming began with one farmer in 2022. Today, we work with several farmers to cultivate chemical-free Mansur Heritage Rice on land in Bayad Village. Begawan’s regenerative agriculture initiative has three goals: to help local farmers transition to regenerative agriculture practices, spread education about the importance of agriculture, and to work with local farmers to increase earnings and create stable incomes.
